This cut of meat isn’t a “butt” in the way we think of the word. It’s actually the upper part of the pork shoulder. Also known as a "picnic roast" it's perfect for throwing in the oven after minimal prep. A couple hours later you have an award winning cut of meat to enjoy with friends and family.
Our pastured pigs are allowed to be pigs meaning they have plenty of room to play and root on our farm in scenic Lancaster County. In addition to what they find on pasture, the pigs are fed lots of skim milk (left over from us making heavy cream from our 100% grass-fed Jersey cows) and their regular feed, which is mostly oats but also contains peas, fish meal, seashell flour, alfalfa meal, wheat middlings, kelp, probiotics, vitamins, and minerals. The feed is free of corn, soy, GMOs, and chemicals, and you must know by now that Farmstead Acres never gives our animals antibiotics or hormones.
