Fresh ham is generally considered a healthier option due to the lack of additives. A fresh ham steak is a raw ham called “fresh” because it is uncured, uncooked, and unsmoked and made without injecting the same chemical brine, smoke, or flavorings used in cured meat. Fresh ham is not processed in any way and with our commitment to no soy, corn, antibiotics or hormones, we think it's the best ham you can get.
Our pastured pigs are allowed to be pigs meaning they have plenty of room to play and root on our farm in scenic Lancaster County. In addition to what they find on pasture, the pigs are fed lots of skim milk (left over from us making heavy cream from our 100% grass-fed Jersey cows) and their regular feed, which is mostly oats but also contains peas, fish meal, seashell flour, alfalfa meal, wheat middlings, kelp, probiotics, vitamins, and minerals. The feed is free of corn, soy, GMOs, and chemicals, and you must know by now that Farmstead Acres never gives our animals antibiotics or hormones.
