Organic Labeling and the Asterisk

If you question how “organic” seems to be thrown around everywhere these days, well, once big money got involved - it’s now a multi-billion dollar industry - an asterisk or two started showing up on labels that cut corners on what farmers can do, and you pay not only from your wallet, but with trust in your food source.
On our farm, we don’t pay for organic certification because we are true and honest with how we farm: no pesticides, fresh water, ethical treatment of our livestock, and using centuries-old practices of rotating what’s planted and what grazes on it to keep bugs and invasives out. In fact, we took down our corn silos years ago because we don't use corn feed. We don’t vaccinate either, but are always checking our livestock for pathogens or viruses. We care for our family of livestock like you care for your family, and you’ll know it by the taste and goodness of our products.

We understand your frustration with what’s being sold as organic, and always invite questions about our products and how we get them on our shelves. You need only compare the ingredients on “organic” items and ours. You can pronounce everything on the short list on our label and won’t have to read about what “pasture-range" means. On our farm, the words mean what they mean, no asterisk needed. Compare pricing too - recently, I saw that our 1/2 gallon of milk costs over $1 less than a big box store's. Now that's healthy!
